Women Vitamins...Blogging Along Minimize

We are always on the look-out for common foods that can help us stay healthy. Sometimes the foods we are most comfortable with are surprisingly on our side, if we eat them correctly.  In other words, remember that eating more of whats good and eating smart is key to any weight-loss strategy.

For instance you can enjoy 15 almonds with a piece of fruit. 15 almonds have 150 calories, 6 grams of protein, 14 grams of good fat, 1 gram of saturated fats, 3.5 grams of fiber and only 6 grams of carbohydrates. That means they are good to go in a pinch, have great fiber and provide you with essential protein and fat.

Ground flaxseed is a great additive to other foods for weight loss.  It has high amounts of fiber, is loaded with omega 3 faty acids,  and phytochemicals called lignans.

Both flaxseed and flaxseed oil have been used to help reduce total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein ("bad") cholesterol levels and, as a result, may help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Enjoy flaxseed sprinkled on salads, added in yogurt, mixed with your granola or oatmeal...or as a munchy.  They have a delicate nutty flavor but be cautious; if you are bothered by small seeds (teeth or gut) use ground flax.

Artichokes are perfect for weight loss, and an amazing source of fiber. One boiled artichoke has 150 calories, with over 10 grams of protein and calcium, folic acid, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium. Studies show that artichokes can interfere with the production of cholesterol, reduce symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and have a protective effect on liver cells.

Potatoes are another unexpected weight loss food – a blend of nutrients, fiber and protein combined with a low-calories  One baked, white potato (with skin) offers 6 grams of protein, and over 1,500 mg of potassium (which can reduce the risk of stroke and high blood pressure) for under 300 calories.  Remember it's the over use of toppings that can topple your diet, not the potato itself!
Potatoes are fat free, sodium free, and offer complex carbohydrates, unlike simple carbs found in sugar and white flour.  Complex carbs keep you feeling full, longer and offer a lower Glycemic Index (GI) which means it takes the body longer to absorb the food, thus making us feel full longer.

Potatoes are exceedingly rich in Vitamin B6, a substance needed for cellular renewal, a healthy nervous system and a balanced mood. Just keep in mind that as a member of the night shade family, you may be sensitive to the potato if you suffer from arthritis....

Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) contains a “friendly” bacteria proven to enhance digestion, speed up weight loss and boosts the immune system.
Sauerkraut can help fight common health problems like colds, skin problems and  weight loss. It is also a cancer inhibitor, that seems to prevent cancer growth particularly in the breast, colon, lung, prostate, and liver.

Rich in vitamins and potassium, sauerkraut has a mere 27 calories per serving. Stuff it in your sandwich, eat it as a side dish, or load it onto a baked potato.
It's all "Zer gutt!"

Take care of your health, take the best vitamins for women, and be blessed, Kersten
